Financing and grants

A complete financing plan for the PhD study period is a prerequisite to obtain admission to the PhD programme at GSST. The financing plan must cover all expenses for the PhD (scholarship/fellowship, tuition fee, running costs, incl. expenses for mobility plans, etc.).

The student does not have to bring his or her own financing when applying, but if financial support is available, this must be documented as part of the application. In connection with the admission procedure, GSST will in collaboration with the main supervisor draw up the financing plan, including expenses such as training costs, tuition fee, scholarship and/or fellowship.

Some PhD students are funded by private or governmental funds in their home country such as the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and Conacyt in Mexico. These kinds of external funding options do not always include tuition, money for administration, mobility, computer etc. and the Department/PhD programme/supervisors will then have to cover these expenses.

Other PhD students are employed in private companies as part of the Industrial PhD programme. Most other PhD students are either awarded a PhD scholarship or a PhD fellowship through Aarhus University, with funding coming from a multitude of sources such as the university, public or private research foundations, private companies, EU programmes, etc.

Please contact the Research Support Office for questions regarding PhD cost prices, and your project finance administrator if you have additional questions.
