Characterization of IFNL4 gene expression - gaining an understanding of noncanonical interferon regulation

During his studies, Hao Zhou investigated the expression and regulation of different subtypes of interferon genes in human cells following viral infection. He also studied how the IFNL4 promoter is regulated in a different manner than other canonical interferons and how the IFNL4 promoters from different species behave similarly. Hao furthermore established a lentivirus system to measure the IFNL4 promoter activity at a single cell level, which is a feasible tool to screen for potential transcriptional factors that can drive IFNL4 gene expression. These new research findings contribute to our understanding of how the IFNL4 gene is regulated and how it plays a role in the context of human diseases.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
