PhD defence, Thursday 5 December 2019. Per Hjerrild.

Per Hjerrild

During his studies, Per Hjerrild studied preparation of compounds that show increased anti-cancer activity towards cells that experience low availability of oxygen. Complex, naturally occurring substances inspired the synthesis of simplified molecules armed with the ability to target cancer cells living under conditions of low oxygen availability. The prepared compounds are envisioned for use to selectively kill cancer cells, based on the correlation between tumorous tissue and prevalence of oxygen-deprived cancer cell.

The research describes the preparartion and biological activity of new molecules, for application as anti-cancer therapeutics.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Chemistry, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
