Journal Club of non-coding RNA Biology (2018)

ECTS credits:
1 point per semester

Course parameters:

Language: English

Level of course: PhD course

Time of year: All year

Capacity limits: 20 participants

Objectives of the course:

The course is a journal club where current topics within the field of non-coding RNA biology are discussed. The aim of the course is to present and discuss novel discoveries within non-coding RNA biology and through this obtain a general understanding of relevant theoretical approaches, experimental techniques, and bioinformatic tools.

Learning outcomes and competences:

At the end of the course the students should be able to:

  • Identify, summarize, analyze and present a relevant scientific paper
  • Constructively criticize presented scientific paper

Compulsory programme:

The student is expected to read the relevant papers, participate actively in discussions of the papers and to present on a regular basis.

Course contents:

One meeting per month to discuss a scientific paper. One student selects a paper in advance and presents it at the meeting. All students are expected to read the paper before the meeting and be prepared to engage in a discussion of the paper. The expected duration of the journal club is 2 hours per session (1 hour of preparation and 1 hour of attendance). The expected preparation time for the presenter is 8 hours.

  • Interest in RNA biology
  • Basic knowledge of RNA biology including relevant techniques and bioinformatic tools
