Learning outcomes and competences:
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand and use the basic functions in Adobe Illustrator
  • Create scientific workflows, illustrations and work with vector graphics
  • Understand rules in working with images for scientific publications

Compulsory programme:
Active participation

Course contents:

  • What is a computer image? Bitmaps, vector graphics, resolution, etc. 
  • Correct scientific practice in image processing 
  • Understanding the publication-dependent submission requirements for images 
  • Correct scientific practice: publishing your science, what is allowed and what is not, examples from publications

Practical parts:

  • Graphic design: Creation of different scientific images
  • Illustration workflow: Students rebuild a graphical workflow and illustrations step by step 
  • Working on your own graphical projects

Special comments on this course:
All participants need access to the newest Adobe software, either on their own notebooks or on computers of the institute. We will conduct an online survey 2 weeks before the course to evaluate the needs of the participants and choose a suitable software.
